Council Members Forum Access - by Bot01 - 02/09/2010

The Council section on the forum hasn't been activated since it's creation. The idea was every team would nominate one player to be able to post to it.

So I would appreciate it if the teams would reply to this post with which team member of that team I should give access to it.

Week 1, Season 2 Schedule - by Nathan Hale - 27/08/2010

Here is the week 1, Season 2 schedule: no title shot or title match for weeks 1 through 3. These regular season ladder matches count for your record and will determine where people start on the ladder once title shot and title match start up in week 4.

SS vs OBCD
AP vs MP
69th vs BGM

Bye: OWN

As of right now the "schedule" box on the main page is messed up. The above schedule is correct, anything else is wrong.

Council Meeting Notes 8/25/10 - by Nathan Hale - 25/08/2010

Council Meeting 8/25/10

-The 2 week wait rule does not apply between seasons. The rosters in that week after the end of one season and the start of the second is wide open-- players can move freely and new teams can enter.

-No bye week between seasons

-If the home team does not have the map on its server at the start of the match time, that team forfeits.

-The 9pm match time is unchanged. But by 9:15 the other team MUST have their 4 players present. There will be no forfeit if they're downloading the map so long as they're connected however if after 5 minutes they are not ready, forfeit.

-BGU scrim night: optional scrims and PUGs 9pm eastern Wed night. Bring your team, bring new players. The map for scrims and PUGs will be the map for the coming Sunday's matches.

Porno, personal attacks not allowed in sprays.

Only truly new teams will be allowed free ringers in their first week of play.

Maps:

Kettlecreek bgl version will be used in the rotation

abbey_bgl will be used in the rotation

ambush has been removed from the rotation

miningtown will not be included in the rotation

bg2 battlefield will not be included in the rotation

harbourtown will not be included in the rotation

koth_v1 will be included in the rotation

koth_nightraid was rejected from the rotation

valley_b4 will be added to the rotation

I have added all non official maps in the rotation to the files section of the website.

Council Meeting for Season 2 - by Nathan Hale - 23/08/2010

A BGU meeting will be held this Wed 8/25 at 9PM eastern. Each team should send 1 person to represent and vote for them. We'll be discussing some rule changes that include

-is there a 2 week wait rule between seasons
-what to do about downloading maps at match time
-what to do with bg_abbey where there is a dark spot in the map
-anything else people want to bring up

-the meeting will be in the AP vent, where we've had past meetings.

Week 8 Results and Season 2 - by Nathan Hale - 22/08/2010

SS defeated MP in week 8 to force a one game playoff against AP. The winner of the playoff will win Season 1 of BGU.

The playoff must happen before Week 1 of Season 2 takes place. AP and SS should talk and agree on a night and time for the playoff match. If they cannot reach an agreement I will pick a time and day for it. The AP and SS rosters are frozen in terms of that playoff match. The rosters for that playoff will be the same rosters as Week 8 of Season 1. Standard BGU match rules will apply.

Season 2 will start on 8/29/10 with bg_kettlecreek. We need some kind of Council meeting before then to iron out a couple rules issues and perhaps talk about some changes to the how things are handled in Season 2. If that meeting fails to happen I will issue provisional rulings on the rules which will stand until the Council makes a final decision on them.

Week 8 - by Nathan Hale - 16/08/2010

Week 8 of Season 1 will be played as scheduled. SS defeated in AP in a Title Match in Week 7. This leaves AP with 2 titles and SS with 1. S.S. can therefore mathematically tie AP if they win again in their Title Match this week against MP. A win for S.S. would force a single sudden death match to determine the winner of Season 1.

The other matches will be played as scheduled to determine where teams finish on the season ladder. Schedule and Power Rankings will be up in the next day or two.

Week 7 - by Nathan Hale - 15/08/2010

Tonight is Week 7 of Season 1. Each season has an 8 week cycle. One issue that was not raised by the Council, however, is the question of what happens if a team captures enough weekly titles that they cannot mathematically be tied or beaten.

I'm issuing a provisional rule that if a team wins enough weekly titles that they cannot be caught, the season will end with them as the winners. The rest of the rankings for teams will be determined by the "rankings board" here at the BGU website.

The idea is simply that in most competitions, tournaments and playoffs generally end when one team can no longer be tied or beaten (e.g., in a best of 7 series, when a team gets 4 wins, the series ends right then). It would be useless to have extra weeks in a season that has already been won.

AP is going for its third title tonight. If AP wins, it will be AP 3, Bro 1, everyone else 0. With only 1 week left, AP could not be caught. So if AP wins tonight against SS, Season 1 will end tonight and proceedings will begin for either an All Star game or Season 2, depending on what people want.

If SS wins tonight, they force an 8th week because a win tonight and a win next week for SS would allow them to tie AP and force a sudden death match for the fate of Season 1.

This rule can be overturned by the council if it wants to, though I doubt anyone wants to play weeks in a season that is already won.

2 Week Rule Interpretation - by Nathan Hale - 12/08/2010

Some confusion has come up over the adopted 2 week wait rule for players changing rosters. The text of the BGU Rule says:

A player must wait 2 weeks after being removed from a roster to be eligible to play for another team.

I am taking this from here on to mean that if you change rosters from active team to active team, you must wait 2 weeks. This is to prevent multiclanning and abuse.

However I am interpreting this rule as NOT applying when a team legitimately quits entirely. The reason for this is that it seems unfair and rigid to bar an entire group of players from playing, who want to play, but are victims of circumstances beyond their control when a clan quits.

This is subject to any evidence of abuse-- if it is found that the team "quit" in an attempt to abuse and just get around the rule, then that will cause the wait to apply.

But where a team legitimately quits, their players can join new clans and go back to playing with no 2 week wait.

The council is free to overrule me if they think I am wrong. But it seems unfair to sideline players because their team quit, even though they want to play.

Season 1, Week 6 Recap - by Nathan Hale - 11/08/2010

Week 6 saw AP capture its second weekly title. They now lead the title race with 2 titles to Bro's 1.

2 weeks remain: week 7 and week 8. After that season 1 will end and crown a season champion. Season 2 will begin either immediately following week 8 OR we can have an All-Star Match after week 8 and then return to Season 2 after the All Star Match. I'd like some feedback on whether you guys want to do an All Star Match.

Week 7 has 8 clans active, 1 with a bye (BGM) and the other 6 in matches.

Power Rankings are up for Week 7 and the schedule is up too.

Season 1, Week 5 Recap - by Nathan Hale - 04/08/2010

AP has earned its first Weekly Title with a win over S.S.. They now have 1 Weekly Title towards the goal of winning Season 1. They have a chance to grab their second straight against Gameface on Aug. 8.

In other news, please welcome MP to the league. Sauce and D3m0n will be running it. You probably know them already though.

Power Rankings and Schedule are up for this week, posted tonight.

Season 1, Week 4 Recap - by Nathan Hale - 26/07/2010

Season 1, Week 4 Recap:
Week 4 was the first playoff week for BGU. Three matches were played, including a Title Shot and a Title Match. Bro Clan defeated BGM in a Title Match to become the first BGU weekly title holders. However they promptly went inactive after the match. This leaves the field for Season 1 wide open to the other teams. The team with the most weekly titles will be the Champion of Season 1.
SS defeated OWN in the Title Shot to earn a spot in the coming Title Match.
Also of note, SS Gamefaces have reactivated and reentered the league.
Be on the lookout for the schedule for the next round of matches and the next edition of the BGU Power Rankings Bot in the next couple of days.

BGU Power Rankings Bot Operational - by Nathan Hale - 20/07/2010

Whereas BGL had a "Predictions Bot", BGU now has a Power Rankings Bot.

A Power Ranking is an informal analysis of each team's performance and upcoming prospects. The Rankings will rate teams from top to bottom based on their records, their dominance (or lack of), etc.

The idea is to provide a fun diversion providing a little "bullshit factor" into the league. It has NO BEARING on actual rankings in terms of who is winning. Rather it's just a little hot air to add an interesting element, like the BGL Predictions Bot did.

BGU Season 1 Week 3 - by Nathan Hale - 15/07/2010

Week 3 News:

-the schedule is up: we have 3 matches this week.

-2 teams have gone inactive, 1 team has joined. Please welcome [BGM] to the league.

-Week 3 is the final week of pool matches. After this we will have 5 weeks of "playoffs". The playoff system is just like BGL, with a "Title Shot" and "Title Match". The team with the highest number of Title Match Wins at the end of the 5 weeks is "Champion" of Season 1.

-Where each team starts on the playoff ladder is determined by their record from Weeks 1 through 3. So week 3 is your last chance to improve your record to get a good seed for the playoffs. Good luck.

Files section and bg_ambush_bgu - by Bot01 - 14/07/2010

A new page has been created containing BGU related files available to download. You will see the "Files" link in the menu bar on the left.

I have added the coming weeks map to the section. Remember to place the config in the cfg directory when you upload it to your server.

Weeks 2 and 3 - by Nathan Hale - 10/07/2010

Week 2 of BGU will take place on Sunday July 11 at 9:00 PM Eastern. The map will be bg_maricopa. This is the standard Maricopa map everyone is familiar with.

Week 3 of BGU will be on Sunday July 18 at 9 PM Eastern. The map will be bg_ambush_bgu.

Ambush_bgu is the same as regular Ambush, except that in the BGU version a single person can UNCAP the flags by touching them. Standard Ambush requires an actual cap of the flag to flip it. BGU version allows a single player to flip a flag the other team has taken. The majority of clans responding to inquiry voted to change to the "1 person flip" version this past week. Several teams did not respond, but those that did overwhelmingly voted to do a "1 flip" version.

That Ambush_BGU will be played 7/18/10. The structure of the map is no different than regular Ambush.

Week 2 Schedule Up - by Nathan Hale - 07/07/2010

The schedule for week 2 is up. Matches will be 9 PM Eastern on Sunday. We have 3 matches and a bye for OBCD. We do have one slot open. If you want your clan to join, please contact me or a BGU Rep. We will get you slated against OBCD for Sunday, if you contact me before the weekend.

Admin Decision- Rosters for June 27 - by Nathan Hale - 26/06/2010

Seeing as many teams are still finding players and getting rosters together, there will be no roster needed to play in Week 1 on 6/27. Bring your players, and have at least 4 in the server ready to go at match time. Rosters should be built during the coming week, but for Week 1 on June 27, no finished roster will be needed to participate if you are a team that has registered as a whole team.

Provisonal Rules - by Bot01 - 24/06/2010

The provisional rules for BGU have been added to the site.

Check them out: here

Match Weeks 1-3 - by Nathan Hale - 23/06/2010

Please note that weeks 1-3 of the season will be devoted to "pool matches"-- there will be no title match or title shot until match #4. This is because the teams do not have enough records yet in weeks 1-3 to generate title shots and title matches that properly reflect the performance of each team.

Instead, the teams will play general matches in weeks 1,2 and 3. Their records from these weeks will be used to determine Title Match and Title Shot starting in week 4.
