A BGU meeting will be held this Wed 8/25 at 9PM eastern. Each team should send 1 person to represent and vote for them. We'll be discussing some rule changes that include
-is there a 2 week wait rule between seasons
-what to do about downloading maps at match time
-what to do with bg_abbey where there is a dark spot in the map
-anything else people want to bring up
-the meeting will be in the AP vent, where we've had past meetings.
Week 8 Results and Season 2 - by Nathan Hale - 22/08/2010
SS defeated MP in week 8 to force a one game playoff against AP. The winner of the playoff will win Season 1 of BGU.
The playoff must happen before Week 1 of Season 2 takes place. AP and SS should talk and agree on a night and time for the playoff match. If they cannot reach an agreement I will pick a time and day for it. The AP and SS rosters are frozen in terms of that playoff match. The rosters for that playoff will be the same rosters as Week 8 of Season 1. Standard BGU match rules will apply.
Season 2 will start on 8/29/10 with bg_kettlecreek. We need some kind of Council meeting before then to iron out a couple rules issues and perhaps talk about some changes to the how things are handled in Season 2. If that meeting fails to happen I will issue provisional rulings on the rules which will stand until the Council makes a final decision on them.
Week 8 - by Nathan Hale - 16/08/2010
Week 8 of Season 1 will be played as scheduled. SS defeated in AP in a Title Match in Week 7. This leaves AP with 2 titles and SS with 1. S.S. can therefore mathematically tie AP if they win again in their Title Match this week against MP. A win for S.S. would force a single sudden death match to determine the winner of Season 1.
The other matches will be played as scheduled to determine where teams finish on the season ladder. Schedule and Power Rankings will be up in the next day or two.
Week 7 - by Nathan Hale - 15/08/2010
Tonight is Week 7 of Season 1. Each season has an 8 week cycle. One issue that was not raised by the Council, however, is the question of what happens if a team captures enough weekly titles that they cannot mathematically be tied or beaten.
I'm issuing a provisional rule that if a team wins enough weekly titles that they cannot be caught, the season will end with them as the winners. The rest of the rankings for teams will be determined by the "rankings board" here at the BGU website.
The idea is simply that in most competitions, tournaments and playoffs generally end when one team can no longer be tied or beaten (e.g., in a best of 7 series, when a team gets 4 wins, the series ends right then). It would be useless to have extra weeks in a season that has already been won.
AP is going for its third title tonight. If AP wins, it will be AP 3, Bro 1, everyone else 0. With only 1 week left, AP could not be caught. So if AP wins tonight against SS, Season 1 will end tonight and proceedings will begin for either an All Star game or Season 2, depending on what people want.
If SS wins tonight, they force an 8th week because a win tonight and a win next week for SS would allow them to tie AP and force a sudden death match for the fate of Season 1.
This rule can be overturned by the council if it wants to, though I doubt anyone wants to play weeks in a season that is already won.
2 Week Rule Interpretation - by Nathan Hale - 12/08/2010
Some confusion has come up over the adopted 2 week wait rule for players changing rosters. The text of the BGU Rule says:
A player must wait 2 weeks after being removed from a roster to be eligible to play for another team.
I am taking this from here on to mean that if you change rosters from active team to active team, you must wait 2 weeks. This is to prevent multiclanning and abuse.
However I am interpreting this rule as NOT applying when a team legitimately quits entirely. The reason for this is that it seems unfair and rigid to bar an entire group of players from playing, who want to play, but are victims of circumstances beyond their control when a clan quits.
This is subject to any evidence of abuse-- if it is found that the team "quit" in an attempt to abuse and just get around the rule, then that will cause the wait to apply.
But where a team legitimately quits, their players can join new clans and go back to playing with no 2 week wait.
The council is free to overrule me if they think I am wrong. But it seems unfair to sideline players because their team quit, even though they want to play.
Season 1, Week 6 Recap - by Nathan Hale - 11/08/2010
Week 6 saw AP capture its second weekly title. They now lead the title race with 2 titles to Bro's 1.
2 weeks remain: week 7 and week 8. After that season 1 will end and crown a season champion. Season 2 will begin either immediately following week 8 OR we can have an All-Star Match after week 8 and then return to Season 2 after the All Star Match. I'd like some feedback on whether you guys want to do an All Star Match.
Week 7 has 8 clans active, 1 with a bye (BGM) and the other 6 in matches.
Power Rankings are up for Week 7 and the schedule is up too.
Season 1, Week 5 Recap - by Nathan Hale - 04/08/2010
AP has earned its first Weekly Title with a win over S.S.. They now have 1 Weekly Title towards the goal of winning Season 1. They have a chance to grab their second straight against Gameface on Aug. 8.
In other news, please welcome MP to the league. Sauce and D3m0n will be running it. You probably know them already though.
Power Rankings and Schedule are up for this week, posted tonight.
